Manchester City Avenges Derby Loss on West Ham – 09-30-09

September 30, 2009 Leave a comment

September 30 – On Monday, leading English Premier League team, Manchester City, who were no doubt still smarting from their 4-3 defeat at the hands of their biggest rivals, Manchester United, the week before, took on West Ham United at home and trounced them by 3-1, to the delight of their betting fans.

What made the victory even sweeter for Manchester City fans was the fact that two of their team’s three goals were scored by talented Argentinean-born striker Carlos Tevez, who previously played for West Ham. The skilful player scored against his old team in the 5th and 61st minute, to a roar from the stadium.

Tevez’s two goals sandwiched that of Bulgarian-born wing Martin Petrov, who’s superb strike found its mark at the back of the West Ham net, putting Manchester City up by 2-1. West Ham’s goal came from Carlton Cole, which sent shockwaves through the stadium given the difference in skill between the two teams.

But score West Ham did, and once Tevez had secured his second goal, a feeling pulsed through the ground that the game was over for the visitors. When Tevez was signed by Man City, he was welcomed to the city with the now infamous billboard depicting him accompanied by the words ‘Welcome to Manchester’.

The irony that Manchester City’s victory on Monday was mainly due to the Argentinean would not have been lost on West Ham, because when he played for them, he saved them from being relegated one year. Currently third from the bottom of the league, West Ham may have a similar battle on their hands this season.

On Sunday Sunderland took on the Wolverhampton Wanderers and dished out a crushing 5-2 defeat at the Stadium of Light. While both teams seemed evenly matched early on, it was Sunderland who struck first when striker, Darren Bent, scored off a penalty awarded to him after being fouled by Segundo Castillo.

From that point onwards the game was pretty staid and seemed as though neither team could make any headway against the other. But in what was arguably not the most exciting of English Premier League matches, Sunderland eventually came out on top, ranking them at 8 in the Premier League and the Wolves at 16.

Tournament: Grand Slam of Slots

September 28, 2009 Leave a comment

If you gamble online even remotely often, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard about this year’s Grand Slam of Slots. It’s one of the biggest online slots tournaments in history, and probably the most well-promoted. Qualifying tournaments for the Grand Slam of Slots started July 1 and will run through September 30.

Where and how can you win? The event will offer 15,000 seats, and those seats have been distributed in ticket form to dozens of online casinos. Belle Rock Entertainment’s four casinos are distributing their 92 tickets via a special slots freeroll promotion called My Gold Ticket. While most of the casinos are using a slot tournament format to award their tickets, some are also giving them away via lotteries, drawings, essay contests, and even a photo contest. Many online casinos have subsidized their Grand Slam of Slots ticket giveaways with other impressive prizes. For example, Microgaming’s participating casinos are also giving away cars and cash.

While many Grand Slam of Slots tickets have already been awarded, there are still hundreds of seats left for the taking. So far, we’ve identified at least three dozen different online casinos that are participating in the promotion. Since most of these casinos are holding qualifiers on a daily basis, you should have no trouble securing not just one but several shots at a Grand Slam seat. As we mentioned above, Belle Rock’s four casinos are all participating, as are four of Microgaming’s biggest sites. You can find even more participating casinos on the Vegas Partner Lounge’s Grand Slam site or simply by searching for the “Grand Slam of Slots Tournament.” Bear in mind that different sites will have different rules. While most of the qualifiers are in freeroll form, some sites are charging members for their chance.

If you’re not sure if your favorite site is participating, try using their site search tool. If a search option isn’t available, then check their Promotions page. If you’re still unsure, log into the game lobby and click on the Tournaments tab. If you haven’t found a Grand Slam of Slots event yet, then you may have to switch to another site.

The Grand Slam of Slots Final will take place from October 22 to November 2, and we have a feeling there are going to be a lot of happy people when the last reel stops spinning. That’s because the Grand Slam of Slots boasts of an unprecedented €1,300,000 prize pool. The winner will become an instant millionaire, while 499 other players will also pocket anywhere from €100 to €100,000. A ticket holder’s odds of winning it all are 1 in 15,000, but their odds of winning at least something (by placing in the top 500) are a mere 1 in 30. Not too shabby!

Ticket-holding contestants will put their slots skills to the test when they play out the final on preselected Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword machines. Each player will be given 9000 credits and one hour to multiply them. Contestants that are ready to put their money where their mouth is have the option of purchasing unlimited rebuys for €20 a pop. A live leaderboard will report the results throughout the event, and at the end, one player will be a million euros richer. If you’re ready to flex your freeroll muscles, then by all means get out there and start playing! If you’re not yet confident in your slots skills, then we recommend you take a quick look at our online slots page, and then click the Golden Ticket promotion on our homepage. As a Gambling Planet reader, you’ll not only get a chance to win your own golden ticket, but you’re guaranteed to get €5 of free real money play.

September 28 – All Star Slots has re-launched using Real Time Gaming (RTG) software. The casino is now able to offer a much improved slot machine game variety – more than 80 out of a total f 120+ games.

The casino has kept the All American slots theme and the deign of the lobby is ion line with the much improved lobby designs we have seen from RTG casinos so far this year.

One of the most interesting things with RTG’s of late is that they are starting to advertise tournament more frequently. It will be interesting to see how this grows, because the Vegas Technology casinos are the only ones to offers US residents with tournaments of substance at the moment,.

Apparently more tournament functionality will be rolled out in the coming months so we’ll keep a keen eye on that.

For slots players there are over 80 games, and that includes classic slots, the Real Series video slots, and of course progressive slot machine games with jackpots over $1 million.

International: Taiwan group protests gambling growth

September 27, 2009 Leave a comment

Taiwanese anti-gambling demonstrators protested outside the country’s Ministry of Education building in response to the department’s policy of subsidizing university courses that teach students on how to staff and run casinos. The group claims that the government is wasting the taxpayer’s money and leading people into dangerous gambling addictions. The protestors are also responding to an upcoming referendum to establish casino gaming on one of the offshore islands.

An official with the country’s Department of Higher Education denied the idea that the university courses encouraged gambling. Rather, the courses are intended to teach students how to manage casinos as well as other tourism operations. According to a department spokesperson, the courses have nothing to do with teaching players how to gamble nor encouraging students to make wagers on their own.

Early this year, the Taiwanese government passed a law that allowed outlying islands to vote on whether or not they wanted to have casino gambling available in their areas. Later this week, citizens in the county of Penghu are scheduled to vote in a referendum on establishing the first casino in the country’s history on the tiny island.

Anti-gambling protestors are also organizing to defeat the Penghu referendum as well as trying to close the university casino management classes. The leader of one of the country’s teachers’ unions stated that she has seen the lives of her students and their parents destroyed by gambling debts, and thus opposes any growth of gambling in the island nation. A number of other activists want to stop casinos from taking root.

One graduate student from the Penghu area is organizing a group of residents to vote down the referendum. He said that the influx of tourists and the level of changes to the island’s infrastructure to house them would be overwhelming to the small area and destroy much of its natural beauty. Also, since the casino license lasts for five years, other islands will start building casinos and Penghu will lose its monopoly on the industry.

Fairmount Park Takes Advantage Of Illinois Internet Gambling

September 26, 2009 Leave a comment

Fairmount Park is one of the many horse racing tracks around the US that is searching far and wide for ways to increase revenue during these tough economic times. Last month, Governor Pat Quinn helped out Illinois tracks by signing into law a provision to allow Internet gambling on horse races.

In order for the tracks to offer the Internet gambling, however, two requirements had to be met. First, the track had to offer live racing. Second, the track had to receive race dates for another season. On Thursday, Fairmount Park met those requirements.

The Illinois Racing Board gave the track the rights to have fifty-two race dates next year. In order to secure those dates, the track had to commit to guarantee at least 130 work days for union members, and the tax rate would be increased.

Those would normally be deal-breakers, but the track agreed to the terms understanding that they needed the rights to advance deposit wagering. In ordinary terms, those three words stand for Internet gambling.

“I’m tickled to death that we have advanced deposit wagering,” said Lanny Brooks, Executive Director of the Illinois Horseman’s Benevolent and Protective Association, “The future of Fairmount Park is going to be colossal.”

The new online betting law will allow gamblers to make wagers from their home computers and also hand held devices. The elimination of these gamblers having to go to the track to bet will raise revenue drastically at Fairmount.

To appeal to a wide variety of different nationalities, Casino 1.9 is available in eleven languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Swedish, Hungarian, Latvian and Portuguese.

The trio of new slot games includes Cats And Cash, which is a five-reel 15-payline title featuring feline characters that are more interested in catching cash, jewellery and gold bars than mice. The second new title, Fortune Teller, is a five-reel 20-payline slot where players can win free spins by gazing into a crystal ball that has gone wild. There is also a bonus round offering tarot cards that are read to determine the prize.

The final new title is Photo Safari, which is a five-reel 20-payline slot that allows players to frolic among friendly and photogenic animals. When the drums beat, players can win free spins before using a bonus symbol to comprise winning combinations for extra cash.

“For the sake of our clients, we aim to keep online casino players entertained with a steady supply of colourful new games thanks to our creative development team,” said Johan Tornqvist, Chief Executive Officer for Play’n Go.

The four new instant-play mini games released as part of Casino 1.9 can be enjoyed within other applications and comprise Bell Of Fortune, Gift Shop, Golden Goal and Speed Cash.
