Quoss wins GUKPT Grand Final

German sees off Jake Cody for £138,750

Poker’s biggest shock of the year came last weekend when Jake Cody found himself heads-up for the GUKPT Grand Final and didn’t win!

Cody’s been on the kind of heater poker players can only dream of in recent months, winning the Triple Crown in record time and more than ear-marking himself as the UK’s premier poker talent. But remarkably the 23-year-old couldn’t manage a wire-to-wire victory, and despite holding the chip lead on all three days, he fell to German Fabian Quoss at the final hurdle.

The £2,500 event attracted many of Europe’s brightest poker talents, and the final table was littered with British players, including James Mitchell and John Gale. But it was Quoss who booked the win, ending a brief heads-up battle with Cody when his A-Q held over the Brit’s K-J.

Victory capped off an impressive few years for Quoss, whose career earnings now swell to $1.4m thanks to victory in London and last year’s English Poker Open. As for Cody, we doubt it’ll be very long before he’s erased the memory of this loss with another bracelet or something.

Here’s how the final table finished up:

1. Fabian Quoss £138,750
2. Jake Cody £96,300
3. Lalit Khajura £59,700
4. Alex Elias £36,550
5. James Mitchell £28,050
6. Tamer Kamal £23,150
7. John Gale £18,300
8. Nathan Watson £13,400
9. Jonas Ovestrad £9,750
