Zimnan Ziyard binks EPT Loutraki

Zimnan Ziyard ended 2011 in style after taking down EPT Loutraki for €347,000. The Eastbourne-based pro has been knocking on the door of poker’s big events for a while now, and after his maiden victory in Greece, can finally take his place amongst a growing list of UK stars.

Barely a week after Sam Trickett won €1m in Cannes, Ziyard added the UK’s bulging trophy cabinet for 2011, turning a final table chip lead into his biggest ever career cash. It capped a great year for Ziyard, who was desperate to finally take down a major event after cashes at the PCA, EPT Deauville and a final table at this summer’s WSOP.

In a grueling final table, the chip lead was tossed back and forth before Ziyard finally saw off Hauke Heseding heads-up. In the final hand, Heseding raised preflop before c-betting 6c-3c-2c flop. Heseding bet an As on the turn before shoving over Ziyard’s small river bet with complete air.

Ziyard tanked for several minutes before saying, “You’ve either got the flush or you don’t…I call!” turning over Ac-7d for two pair. Heseding showed Jd-5c for a complete bluff, and after the dealer had counted a re-counted the chips, we had ourselves a new EPT champ.

Here’s how the final table finished up:

1.  Zimnan Ziyard €347,000
2.  Hauke Heseding €221,800
3.  John Taramas €134,400
4.  Florian Schleps €100,800
5.  Pierre Mothes €67,200
6.  Andras Kovacs €53,700
7.  Charalampos Kapernopoulos €40,300
8.  Mario Puccini €27,000
