Overall NFC East Sports Betting Odds Likely Affected by Michael Vick Injury

The injury-depleted Philadelphia Eagles will host the New York Giants in their home opener this weekend, looking to establish some early season positioning in an unpredictable NFC East Division.

On the NFL betting board the Eagles are the team to beat, with 8/1 betting odds of winning the Super Bowl, but not far behind are the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys. If Michael Vick’s recent concussion proves severe, then either of the three underdog clubs could make a run for the division.

This Sunday it will be Eli Manning and the Giants charged with the task of disrupting the quarterbackless Eagles and they may have just the opportunity.

For as deep as Andy Reid’s Philadelphia team has been, there is no denying the spark that Vick has provided since returning to the NFL. His on the field production has been obvious, but it has been his resurgence in the football community off the field that has allowed the Eagles to successfully transition from the Donovan McNabb era.

With Philly’s future in limbo, the Giants stand to benefit most, provided they can hold off a Redskins lineup currently powered by a refreshed Rex Grossman and a Cowboys club struggling with quarterback health issues of their own.

No timetable has been announced for Vick’s return to the field, so it is likely that offseason acquisition Vince Young will step in with the start.
